No solution outside context
Optimality is relative to a subject, environment, time, resources and preferences. As causally relevant context becomes more complete, more relations can distinguish alternatives.
Fuller context does not guarantee uniqueness, but it reduces the space of accidental ties.
Do not count copies as distinct optima
Physically different implementations belong to the same functional class when all relevant consequences are identical. The question shifts from one implementation to one best class of consequences.
The attractor may be a trajectory
Context changes over time, so the optimum can move as well. Intelligence development may be viewed as reducing the distance to a dynamic trajectory of optimal functional states.
